June 2014: RES WELCOMES CONSENT FOR MINNYGAP WIND FARM

Leading independent UK renewable energy developer RES has today welcomed the Scottish Government’s decision to grant planning permission for Minnygap Wind Farm, near Moffat in Dumfries and Galloway.

The decision on the 10-turbine project was made by an independent reporter appointed by the Scottish Government following RES’ appeal against Dumfries and Galloway Council’s decision to refuse planning permission for the wind farm.

Graeme Kerr, Development Project Manager, commented: “RES firmly believes that Minnygap is a well located site for a wind farm and we are delighted with the decision made by the Scottish Government. The recent findings of the Eskdalemuir Working Group research removed the technical objection to the project and we are pleased that the reporter agreed that Minnygap will not have a significant impact on the landscape or tourism in the area. We look forward to working with the local community as we prepare the project for construction.”

In addition to direct and indirect economic benefits as a result of the construction of Minnygap Wind Farm, the local community will receive a community benefits package totalling in excess of £2.5 million over the project’s lifetime, which includes RES’ pioneering Local Electricity Discount Scheme (LEDS).
